Hmm...
what (more) to say about my work?..
Here's
a few things some other people have said:
'Joel
Stewart's talent for telling is every bit as insightful as his drawings.'
The Guardian.
"..Conviction and craft defying sense and logic and creating
enchantment." Books For Keeps.
(Of
the Adventures of a Nose). 'The pictures are beautiful and ingenious.'
The Observer.
(Of
Underwater Farmyard). "One of those rare books that make you
very glad something so strange and beautiful exists'. The Independent.
So
that's nice. From my end I suppose I can say that I am trying to
make the kinds of images and picture books I thought, or half remembered
existed, but couldn't quite find when I went and looked. Of course
they come out some other way again than that, but maybe one day
other people will half remember them.
This
is the best way I've ever had it put:
"Joel
Stewarts dear Figuerlein, its melancholisch swung flowers and even
its geheimnisumwitterten night shapes turn the cheerful and peculiar
one out. They do not va
rnish anything. But they stand as dezent
and in a spirit of mutual confidence beside the bad texts as a good
friend, into whose heart one can pay its grief and which will bring
one perhaps back to the laughter." (Google translation from the
German newspaper Die Zeit).
I
make music too, some of it can be found hiding here.
